So as I posted earlier, I just watched a Canucks game I had recorded from a few years ago. Unfortunately, I only managed to watch 2 periods.
It was the Canucks at Flames game from October 2008. What I thought would be a great game to watch turned out to be bitter sweet because it was a great game for Rick Rypien.
After 2 periods, he had a goal (making it 2 goals in the first 2 games of the season) and a fight. He was one assist away from a Gordie Howe hattrick.
The commentators were singing his praises and speaking of his strong potential to go far in the league. They also discussed how he’s a true fighter…
He was interviewed by Scott Oake too. Oake mentioned how he had 20+ members of the Rypien family in attendance to see the game…
Not to mention, Pavol Demitra was also in the game….That being said, I didn’t have the heart to finish watching :’(
R.I.P Rypien and Demitra (Gone too soon. Life is precious…)
I need a hug…
If you’re faint of heart, maybe you shouldn’t read the tweets. But essentially what this guy was doing was attacking and making fun of the deaths of Luc Bourdon, Rick Rypien, and Pavol Demitra. What possessed him to do so? I have no idea, but I can’t believe what he was saying. None of those men deserved to die. They had their whole lives ahead of them and should have gotten the opportunity to experience everything life had to offer. They are gone too soon, and it’s not how things should have played out. They all passed in different ways, but they deserve to be loved and respected.
I wasn’t going to share this, but I feel the need to. I personally, have never initiated any drama with fans of teams that rival the Canucks. Sure, I’ve gotten emotional, posted things on my blog, but I’ve never trolled on someone else’s twitter or blog to start drama and “hate” on them. I’m too old for that. So that being said, it’s fine to not like a rival team and disagreements happen between the fans…but what I saw this morning on my twitter timeline is simply appalling. I can’t even believe what I was reading, so I had to say something to this person.
This guy is a Blackhawks fan, I realize that what he said doesn’t reflect all Blackhawks fans, but an outsider reading this would find it hard to hold respect for that demographic. I’ve since reported and blocked him for his hateful tweets. It’s a matter of respect. I respect everyone, until they give me reason not to. I don’t have any respect for this man. He said digusting, hurtful things about Rick Rypien and then had the audacity to bring God into it. I found that repulsive. He is not a man of God. No good Christian could ever say something so hateful about the dead and be so judgmental. Instead, he is a disgrace to all Christians. I hope he opens his eyes and sees what a terrible image he is portraying of himself.
We are all hockey fans. We may like different teams, but that’s no reason to become so full of animosity. This man was degrading the dead, three fallen warriors that had their wholes ahead of them. What has the world come to? It’s a defamation of humanity and the hockey world. I know we are all better than this. Just remember 3 lives were lost. It doesnt’ matter if they were Canucks or not. They were human beings. Respect them. It’s the least we can do, it’s supposed to be part of our nature.
Rest in peace: Luc, Rick and Pavol. Never to be forgotten and forever loved ♥
I was browsing my Canucks pictures and found this picture. It has always been my favourite picture of Pavol Demitra. He looks so happy sitting and chillin’ with the Sedins. I always pictured him saying “So I was like wtf, bro?!” and it makes me smirk every time I see it, so I thought I’d share.
Miss the strong-willed Slovak ♥
R.I.P. Pavol Demitra. You were one powerful Slovakian center. You’ll be missed
He passed away today when the charter plane carrying him and his KHL team, Yaroslavl Lokomotiv crashed. My condolences go out to his family and the families of his teammates.
Too many young hockey lives lost this off-season :(
