He passed away today when the charter plane carrying him and his KHL team, Yaroslavl Lokomotiv crashed. My condolences go out to his family and the families of his teammates.
Too many young hockey lives lost this off-season :(
R.I.P Wade Belak. You’re moving on from this locker-room to one in a better place. Your sense of humor and fight will never be forgotten.

I met Rick Rypien at the Raise a Reader event last year. I was so nervous and anxious to approach him because of his tough guy persona, but after seconds of talking to him, it was obvious that he had a big warm heart and was genuinely a good person. A big teddy bear. He made me smile that day like no other player has. I won’t ever forget that day. His smile, his sweet, soft nature. I cant believe he’s gone…He’s a fighter, he’ll keep fighting hard wherever he is now.
