"Finn’s a bit of a grumpy sod. He’s such an epic slice but he massively knows it.”
I’ve been a Canucks fan for almost 20 years, so for those that may be new to the team, don’t worry this is not the worst the team has ever looked, so take a deep breath and fear not, they’ll come out swinging from this slump.
I know there’s a lot of people saying that Tortorella has got to go, in my opinion, a coaching change is not what this team needs right now. Bringing in a new guy will only require the players to adjust to a new system all over again. For those saying that Torts’ system doesn’t work in Vancouver, I’d say that I think it takes more than a year for a team to feel comfortable with a new system, especially when a majority of the team was used to playing under Alain Vigneault for years. And thats with a healthy roster.
This year was just bizarre from start to finish. So many players that were known for scoring, staying healthy, or playing well all slumped. Henrik, who’s had an Ironman streak for many years, was hurt multiple times. Alexandre Burrows couldn’t stay healthy long enough to score his first goal of the season, and when he returned, it still took him a number of games to score his first (and that’s just naming two players).
Don’t get me started on the Luongo situation. What exactly happened there? After 2 years of “we’re gonna trade you” to “we’re gonna keep you” and going down to his home in Florida with coaching staff, management, and ownership, Gillis ended up trading him anyway? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
John Tortorella didn’t win his Cup with the Lightning until his FOURTH year with the team. Very rarely are results immediate when a new coach or system is put into place. He has shown that he has what it takes to push a team to beyond what they know they are capable of doing. People blame him for the injuries. I dont think that’s fair. Stuff happens, and a lot of bad stuff happened this year. There’s so many games that the team should have easily won, but they lost. It’s hard to admit but there were games where it looked like the team just gave up. In the end, had they won just a few of the games that they were set to win, they’d be in the playoffs. And who knows what could have happened.
Just remember, this is the same team that was trekking along, racking up wins (which included come from behind victories, didn’t see many of those under AV in the tail end of his time here) in the first half of the season. I think Torts should be given another year, with a healthy roster, which includes NEW faces. I know it may be hard to hear, but he speaks the truth in saying that the roster is stale. we’re not in 2011 anymore.
The team can’t keep players around because they’re fan favourites. You need gritty, underdog players who surprise everyone with their play to win a cup. You need to step out of your comfort zone. Look at any team that’s won a Cup in recent years, explosive offensive hockey is needed. Something that the Canucks haven’t supplied for years now. On a positive note, the Canucks did show some signs of offensive life in the last couple games (especially in their 3 game winning streak), but barely getting by and scraping a few wins together when it’s a little too late doesn’t mean much.
Change is needed. I say, give Torts another chance. He has the Cup ring to prove he knows what a team needs to win it all.
Pavel Datsyuk to reporters shoving microphones in his face.
HAHAHA. Datsyuk is awesome.

Or how about “you were already hot, good for you.”
Implying that someone wasnt attractive before is trash. Beauty isnt all about having the “perfect” body.
You can work to be a better you inside and out. But you’re all still hot babes just as you are!
